Hosts Lisa Elliott and Stephanie Valle are talking Local Flavor, the Plaza Classic Film Festival's showcase of locally made and connected films. Filmmakers will vie for $3,650 in cash awards — including new awards for student films!
They're joined by festival program director Doug Pullen, who lays out how the showcase works, and Josh Pulido, an El Paso filmmaker whose submission “The Film Cafe” won Local Flavor’s $1,000 second prize in 2023. It was also chosen as the audience favorite, which came with another $250 purse.
Josh Pulido is a self-taught filmmaker of 16 years, and runs Gyro Studios, his own film production company based in El Paso, Texas. He’s a Director, Cinematographer, Producer, Musician, Film Editor, Drone Pilot, Writer, VFX Compositor, and much more! Since these are so many jobs to do on set, he often has his team all come together for these film projects to help with the very difficult task of making a film. He’s made several short films, and is working on releasing his first feature film which is currently filming as this podcast comes out. He’s won awards such as Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, and more, in Santa Fe NM, Los Angeles CA, Austin TX and more, but his favorite thing, is watching everyone’s reactions to watching the final films for the first time ever.
