Neal Vogel and Gary Williams join hosts Stephanie Valle and Lisa Elliott to discuss the Plaza Theatre renovation.
Neal Vogel is the founder and Principal of Restoric Enterprises, LLC located in Beverly Shores, Indiana, and offers a full range of historic specialty services for landmark and traditional buildings. He has had the honor to work on hundreds of nationally significant buildings and historic interiors designed by American masters such as Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, McKim Mead & White, Burnham & Root, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Rapp & Rapp, Edgar Miller, Keck & Keck, Trost & Trost and Eero Saarinen—along with countless vernacular and industrial buildings. Recent projects have included the homes of a U.S President and Vice President. Many of these projects entailed decorative finishes for historic theatres, churches, hotels, courthouses and libraries.
Neal’s company, Restoric, has had the great privilege to work on several of the premiere historic buildings in El Paso including the Plaza Hotel, Kress Building, Hotel Plaza Del Norte, and Plaza Theatre.
Gary L. Williams has served in the nonprofit sector for 50 years and currently serves as the Vice President of Programs for the El Paso Community Foundation where has worked since 1998. Gary is responsible for working on many community-related projects involving partnerships in historic preservation, heritage tourism, public history and natural conservation.
Williams’ historic preservation projects have included the restoration of the 1857 Old Locomotive Number 1, the 1886 Lady Justice statue at the El Paso County Courthouse, 1843 Socorro Mission, the Rio Vista Poor Farm & Bracero Farmworker Processing Center, and the Plaza Theatre’s 1930 Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. Gary worked as a part of the public-private project Team on the restoration of the Plaza Theatre from 2002 until its completion in 2006. He continues to lead weekly tours of the Plaza and oversees the operation of the Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.
