Cathcart, John, MD El Paso pioneer physician who treated Mexican soldiers during the Revolution and worked with first xray machine in El Paso.

De la Rosa, Jose Manuel "Manny"  Founding dean of El Paso's medical school

Dow, Dr. Antonio  beloved physician and philanthropist with his wife Jane Gotti Dow

Hendricks, Charles M.   connected with sanatorium in El Paso and Sun Bowl

Love, Dr. J. D.  Nationally known Ysleta physician who had a mobile office and delivered babies in the lower valley, 1930s-1940s.

Moss, Donald, PhD  retired UTEP Scientist who developed medicine to fight Alzheimer's but whose work was ignored.

Olivas, John. D. (Danny) Astronaut from El Paso. Start by searching Google, making sure that the sites you choose to use are reputable. 

Samaniego, Mariano Dr. Juarez pioneer physician, governor of Chihuahua, health officer, soldier. 

Respected family.  Great-grandfather of County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.  See Rachel for newspaper articles from the early 1900s.

Schuster Family

  • Dr. Michael P. Schuster, early physician for ASARCO, operated on General Huerta in 1916. Established Providence Hospital.
  • Dr. Steven Schuster, son retired eye surgeon -- Dr. Frank Schuster , son specialist -- Margaret Schuster Meyer, daughter.
  • Schuster,Eugenia Hungarian aristocrat, married to Dr. Michael P. Schuster, studied piano under Franz Lizst. She is often referred to in newspapers or articles in the past as Mrs. M.P. Schuster or Mrs. Michael Schuster.
    • Responsible for bringing opera singers from Europe to El Paso
    • Per Congressional Serial Set 6382 she was General Superintendent/Manager of Providence Hospital
  • If you also search the EP Historical Society archives, you'll see several photos of Dr. Michael Schuster, and also that he was a physician during the Mexican revolution, and operated on General Huerta.

Tappan, Dr. John W.  doctor in early 20th century  

Vilas, Walter physician who performed autopsy on John Wesley Hardin who died Aug 19, 1895, Dr. Vilas also did first vaccinations on diphtheria in El Paso.

Research tips

Note details that might seem insignificant at first glance, in case one finds other information later.

Women's information is often found through researching the men in their lives (i.e. husband, fathers, etc.) so the notes here might only state that Mrs. X was married to Mr. X who was important for some reason, but in researching him, there might be information about his wife found later.
