Frontera: Home

Centralized guide to all EPCC's local history publications, videos and guides and sources for local history topics

About Frontera

Frontera is a centralized guide to all EPCC's local history guides, publications and videos.  If you want to learn more about a facet of local history, use the tabs on top to browse EPCC publications or view our videos.  Use the search box to find sources we've written OR links to other sources for further discovery!

Your search may also pull up potential topics that we have not fully researched yet but may interest you!  These are grouped under the "Other Research Topics" tab at the top.  Research that person, place, or topic through the sources listed on this page and email Rachel Murphree if you have any questions!

Be a Detective!

Wondering how to research local history?  Follow our steps to "Be a Detective" by taking your topic keywords through the following sources.

Essential Sources

Search each topic in the sites below.  There will not be information in every site.   Don't get discouraged!

Historical Sources

If your person or topic was prominent before 1999

Specific Sources

Especially if your person or topic is associated with UTEP or from historical Mexican-American neighborhoods or was honored by Congress.

Web sites / Social Media

Think carefully about the sources you are finding and using.

  • Currency - How recent is the information?
  • Reliability - What kind of information is included in the resource? Is it balanced? Does the creator provide references or sources for data or quotations?
  • Authority - Who is the creator or author? Who is the publisher or sponsor?  What is the author's or publisher's interest (if any) in this information?
  • Accuracy  - Is the content readable? Is the content truthful? Is the content correct?
  • Purpose/Point of View - Is this fact or opinion?  Is the creator/author trying to sell you something; persuade you about something?

Check the acronym.  Did your website pass the CRAAP Test?!
