Performing a book search with our online catalog will be one of the most common tasks you perform while doing your research at El Paso Community College. To perform a book search, simply go to www.epcc.edu and make sure you click the libraries tab. Furthermore, everything you need in regards to your research needs will be found on this page! To conduct a search, simply enter a keyword, or two, in the EBSCO Discovery Service search bar that is displayed within our library page. This tool is tied into our EBSCO databases; so, it will retrieve a combination of books at our campus as well as articles and scholarly journals from online databases and outside sources.
Unless you are searching for a specific title or author, entering a term or 2 that is relevant to your topic is the best way to go about researching with this tool. Common phrases searched could include Rosa Parks, gun control, and childhood obesity; these are just some of the endless examples there are to enter in the search bar. For the purposes of an example, the results of gun control will be displayed below.
As you can see, Ebsco Discovery Service didn't exactly limit the search to books; this is because the Ebsco Discovery Service Database will retrieve articles and information from publications that are within our online databases! Although this convenience can be an added distraction when only desiring books, you do have the ability to modify your searches to only display books in the library. To accomplish this, simply play with the features that are found on the left side of the catalog. You can adjust your searches by date, resource type, campus location, and so on. The more you engage in searching for books and resources, the better you will get.
After modifying the search to books, you should be able to find various book records of items relevant to gun control. The search will give you the location, call number, and campus location of the item. All books are organized in alphanumerical order, according to subject. If you do not recognize how this system works while locating a book, you are encouraged to ask a staff member so we can find your item and explain how this works for future reference.
You can click the title of the book to access additional features and information about the title of the book!
When accessing the record of a book you can access features like the ones seen below; these are found on the right side of the record. The EBSCO Discovery Service platform provides you the ability to cite, print, and save your articles!
