Hosts Stephanie Valle and Lisa Elliott are joined by fellow Plaza Classic Film Festival Program Advisory Committee member Jaime Mendez.
Mendez, an administrator at UTEP, is also an avid film fan and created the committee's Oscar ballot contest. He explains how the winner of the contest (historically, him!) is able to pick a movie to screen during the fest, and which films have been a product of the Oscar competition.
Dr. Jaime Mendez currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Students at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). His duties include overseeing student support, governance and compliance. He also oversees the university’s food pantry and advises the Student Government Association. In addition, Dr. Mendez has served as a programming committee member of the Plaza Classic Film Festival for the past 11 years. This is an event that allows him to engage in his passion for film, along with various teaching, acting and production opportunities he has engaged with. He received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration (2020), M.A. in Theater with a focus in Playwriting (2006) and B.A. in Psychology (1997). All three degrees were earned at UTEP.
