Mexican American Experience: About Us

Mexican American Experience

Our History

The Mexican American Experience (MAE) began in the Fall semester of 2017. Two faculty members, Sociology Professor Steve Loera and History Professor, Jorge Rodriguez came together and began to brainstorm about presenting Mexican American issues to our student population here at El Paso Community College. Soon after they teamed up with Head Librarian Oscar Baeza and began the discussion on how, where, and most important why such presentations were needed. MAE believes it is important to educate our students about the Mexican American experience which includes, culture, history, activism, and issues affecting this population segment. In addition, MAE tries to connect its presentation with local people and issues. The committee also feels it is important for students to learn about the Southwest region of El Paso, Las Cruces, and Cd. Juarez.
