For your assignment, you will be asked to locate the nursing position statement for your topic.
Position Statements from the American Nurses Association can be located by visiting their website at http://www.nursingworld.org
To find your positions statement, clickon "Practice and Advocacy" at the top then Position Statements. You will be on the "ANA Official Position Statements" page.
Some of the statements require that you are a member of ANA in order to read the full text. As a student, however, you will be eligible to register for free.
To find out about free membership, click on the word "Membership" at the top and then on Student Nurses on the right side.
Some of the position statements may not be found exactly worded as your topic.
Read through some of the position statements to see if any of them match or use the search box in the upper right corner and put keywords in the box.
You may also look at Ethics under the "Practice and Advocacy" tab.
You may also need to look at the position statements of other nursing associations that are more closely aligned with your topic.
See the Nursing Associations box for links to additional associations that may have position statements.
If you have trouble finding your nursing position statement, try using Google.
In the search box, put some of your topic.
Example: Informed consent and Nursing position statement
You can also try to find position statements from other professions.
Example: Patient autonomy and position statement
