Memorias del Silencio is a project that provides creative writing workshops to immigrant farmworkers and their families who are finishing their GED at El Paso Community College.
Our workshops serve as a platform for our students to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
We publish annually the best works produced in our workshops in a book and ebook, showcasing our students' incredible talent and providing a tangible representation of their hard work.
Our project is more than just a writing program. We believe in celebrating our students' diverse backgrounds and encouraging them to embrace their culture and identity. By fostering community within a group that is often overlooked, we empower our students to tell their stories and connect with others in their community.
Through the power of the written word, we raise awareness of the challenges faced by this marginalized group, inspiring others to take action. We are proud to be a part of a community that values diversity and inclusion and believes that creative writing is a powerful tool for social change.
This project is a collaboration between the Community Education Program Department at El Paso Community College and BorderSenses, a local artistic non-profit.
