I am an English Professor at the Northwest campus. I teach all levels of English composition and literature. I see writing as the physical manifestation of our thoughts. Therefore, I encourage everyone to write, keep a journal, jot down ideas. I also believe literature is a reflection of the human experience, condition. I hope to make a difference in my students' lives. As the chair of the Mental Health Committee, I am an advocate for students and all others who experience mental health struggles. I aim to bring mental health awareness and knowledge to those in need. Ultimately, I want to be a resource for mental health resources provided by the College and beyond.
Greetings, my name is Guadalupe Marshall and I am currently serving as vice-chair for the Mental Health Committee. I have been a member of the Mental Health Committee since 2019 and have witness the wonderful resources, training/workshops and events the committee has provided for students, faculty, staff and soon retirees. In addition, I am a Counselor at the Rio Grande Campus overseeing some of the Health Career Programs. Being a Counselor I see the great need for mental health resources at El Paso Community College and the need to educate and destigmatize mental health issues as well as promote mental health wellness. I look forward to continuing being an active member of the committee and serving our great El Paso Community College family.
I am utterly thrilled to introduce myself - I am Adriana Flores, and I currently have the honor of serving as the Secretary of the Mental Health Committee, a role I have embraced since 2023-2024. In addition to my secretarial role, I am a Counselor at the Valle Verde campus, where I spend significant time advising students and addressing their mental health concerns. As a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), I bring professional expertise to my work, including my part-time service at the Counseling Center of Expressive Arts, where I support clients navigating through their mental health challenges. I regard mental health as crucial and passionately work towards increasing awareness about it. My interest in this field stems from directly witnessing how understanding and support can significantly impact individuals’ lives. I firmly believe that mental wellness, coupled with empathy, acceptance, and action, plays an integral role in building a healthier society overall.
Carrie Van Houdt has been teaching at EPCC since Fall 2015. She is currently a tenure-track instructor. She teaches Psychology at Valle Verde campus. She is a mental health advocate and the faculty advisor of the EPCC student club BAMH (Bringing Awareness to Mental Health). She runs weekly support groups advertised at EPCC- look out for the announcements on Blackboard! She is also active with the EPCC honors program, the Mental Health Committee, facilitating Employee of the Month at VV campus, a faculty coach for the First Year Experience Center, and a steering committee member for the EPCC Teachership Academy.
