Description of multiple resources available at EPCC

Introduction

Welcome to the EPCC Counseling Department! We are here to help you reach your educational and personal goals. If you are undecided in your career choice, if you are struggling with your courses, or if you’re finding that personal problems are getting in the way of your success, we have the tools to guide you and help you succeed. We will make all of our resources available to you.

Mission: Our mission is to promote Student Enrollment, Retention and Success through Recruitment and Outreach Activities, New Student Orientations, and Academic Advising, Career Exploration, and Personal Adjustment Counseling.

Staff: The Counseling Department consists of full-time doctoral and master level counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors, part-time counselors, and full-time bachelor level academic advisors. Furthermore, the counselors’ and advisors’ objectives could not be met without the assistance of the professional and efficient support staff.

Early Alert Program: The Early Alert Program at El Paso Community College rests on the collaborative efforts of faculty, counselors, advisors and academic support services. We are working together as a team in an involved, proactive, and supportive approach to increase student's academic success.

Personal Counseling

The El Paso Community College Counseling Department recognizes that students face personal challenges that affect academic success. It is the objective of this department to help students resolve these challenges by providing the following services: referral service to community agencies and services; faculty development activities, consultation to faculty, staff and administrators; preventive group activities; individual brief counseling; and crisis management. In the area of personal counseling, the philosophy of this department is to provide objective, non-judgmental support to assist students in developing strategies and solutions to problems in brief counseling format. All services will be in accordance with the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics, American Psychological Association’s Code of Ethics, Texas Licensed Professional Counselors Regulations, and Licensed Clinical Social Work Code of Ethics.
